Microsoft has reworked its professional certification offerings. The MCSE makes a return to the certification jargon, however with a new meaning. I currently hold a Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) credential for Windows 2003. The MCSE of course went away with the arrival of certifications for Windows 2008, being replaced with the MCITP, or the Microsoft Certified IT Professional. There were MCITPs for various and sundry disciplines such as SharePoint, SQL Server, Windows 2008 Server Administrator and so forth and so on.
Under the new structure, MCSE becomes the mainstream marquee certification once again, but as the Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert.
